About the Dagger Brigade

The Second Brigade Combat Team is known as the Dagger Brigade and began operation in 1917. The Brigade is based at the U.S. Army Garrison in Schweinfurt, Germany and is part of the First Infantry Division (“Big Red One”) which is headquartered at Fort Riley, Kansas.

Brigades, which are comprised of battalions and regiments consisting of 500 to 600 Soldiers, are the discrete tactical units of the U.S. Army operating in theatre in Iraq and Afghanistan. Each battalion and regiment is comprised of companies, which are then made up of platoons of 16-40 Soldiers. Platoons are divided into squads.

The Dagger Brigade Insignia, shown in the center of each page of this website, consists of the tip of a spear in the center, surrounded by the insignias of each of the infantry, armor, cavalry, artillery, engineer, forward support, intelligence, signal and military police battalions and regiments that make up the Brigade. The commanding officer of the Brigade is Colonel JB Burton. Lieutenant Colonel Robert Whittle commands Task Force Guardian, which supports the Brigade and families from Schweinfurt.

The bonds that the soldiers and families feel with the people involved in Weston Supports are so strong, that both Lieutenant Colonel John Reynolds, and Lieutenant Colonel Whittle have written letters expressing what they value most about our connection with them.
